Mohun Creek - Hydro Electric Project
Project May Not Trigger BC Environmental Assessment

The proposed 9,000,000 million watt micro-hydro project at Mohun Creek may not trigger the thresholds set out in the (RPR) Reviewable Projects Regulation (BC Reg 370/2002).  Presently, the project does not trigger criteria set out in the Part 4- Energy Projects and Part 7- Water Management Projects of the Reviewable Projects Regulation. In this instance, an environmental assessment certificate is not required for the project and the proponent under such cirumstances would proceed with without an assessment. >>Read more>>

A 2.5km penstock, similar to the picture above will divert a flow of water producing 9Mw of power.

The proposed hyrdo electric project at Mohun Creek will involve:

  • a licenced extensive use area 560ha or 1384 acres in size (currently under application review);
  • a licenced site intensive use area (size unknown);
  • alteration of a streambed at point of diversion;
  • construction of a reservoir to store water for intake;
  • construction of 35m x 10m weir to dam water within reservoir;
  • construction and placement of a 2.5km penstock;
  • penstock diameter 1,372mm or 54 inches (4.5 foot diameter);
  • construction of a powerhouse containing turbine and generator on lower Mohun Creek;
  • installation of a 5km transmission line;
  • the project will likely use a 'design-build' tendering process for the construction of the Mohun Creek hydro electric project.
